The story of Exotic Bonsai in Indonesia goes back more than seventeen years. It began when Mr. Edo de Groot, owner of the well-known Edo Bonsai in the Netherlands, started importing tropical Bonsai from Indonesia into Europe. To overcome challenges — advance payments, unknown varieties, lack of export experience, price negotiation, unforeseen charges — he invested significant time supporting Indonesian Bonsai exports, believing in the unmatched quality of these tropical species compared to what he saw in Japan, Korea, China, Thailand and Taiwan.
Buying mainly from Puncak and Batu, he found himself limited in sourcing. After marrying the talented Mrs. Rahayu, also a well-known Bonsai specialist, the plan for the best Bonsai exporting company in Indonesia was born — able to source from across the archipelago: Bali, Sumatra, Madura and beyond.
With support from Mr. Sylvain Delannoy and Mr. Frederic Chenal, the company was built starting in 2005, following European standards for housing, loading, packing and maintaining Bonsai, and began exporting from 2008 to interested countries worldwide. All prices are FOB, so importers always know the correct cost upfront.
