A beautiful specie, that many times shows balanced jin, shari and dead wood. The light green leaves turn into yellow in a light, shiny place; specially outside in the summertime. The yellow leaves attracts white fly, but thus can be easily treated without hurting the plant. It requires a lot of water. Flowering blue and having yellow fruits like wine crapes makes it a very popular Bonsai.
Many tropical species are used to gread adventage, with stupendous buttressed trunks, spectacular exposed roots sometimes as big as the diameter of the pot and aerial roots which give the trees a wholly unmistakable appearance.
As an original Bonsai the Juniper mainly was found in Japan. It is only the last years, that we can also find this specie in Indonesia. Although the Juniperus is an outdoor Bonsai; the variety Meyerii from Indonesia can also be held indoor for a longer period. But should be protected from stark frost in the winter period. Different Jins make this Bonsai to a rare specimen in many cases.
Fairly well known and used in China and Japan, it is sometimes exported, but the European species are not widely distributed. It is a very lively and adaptable plant which grows fast. It deserves more widespread use.
